Wipfli LLP (Wipfli), a top 20 national accounting and consulting firm, has announced partner Valerie Fedie, has been appointed to become its new market leader for Western Wisconsin and Duluth. Fedie is based out of Wipfli’s Eau Claire office and will continue to oversee the firm’s research and development (R&D) tax consulting services for the firm while guiding the larger business’s service and industry offerings in regional offices.

“Valerie’s tenure at the firm, and her deep knowledge of Wipfli’s commitment to engaging clients in a holistic manner to better serve their needs, positions her well to lead this geography,” said Wipfli’s Managing Partner Rick Dreher. “We look forward to seeing what she can bring to this growing role and market.”

In her new role, Fedie will guide Wipfli’s offices in Duluth, Minnesota, and Eau Claire and La Crosse, Wisconsin, while continuing to provide research and development (R&D) tax-consulting services to clients. She will be responsible for overseeing a team of nearly 175 professionals who provide audit, tax and consulting services to businesses and individuals across western Wisconsin and northern Minnesota. Her role also includes driving the overall financial results of the market, new client development, client retention, partner and associate development and community engagement.

“Wipfli has served this part of Wisconsin for nearly a century and we are excited for the innovative leadership that Valerie will bring to our clients here,” said Mark Faanes, Wipfli’s current regional leader for Western Wisconsin and Duluth.

With over 20 years of experience in the accounting industry, Fedie brings extensive knowledge in R&D tax credits to her consulting engagements. In her client service role, Fedie consults with a wide range of companies to maximize their R&D tax credits, while also helping clients overcome challenges and leverage opportunities with new product and process improvements. She has particular expertise in R&D tax credit incentive projects, Section 174 deductibility analysis and Federal and state audit defense support.

Fedie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with a major in finance and a minor in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She is involved in various community and charity endeavors.

Fedie succeeds Faanes who will be retiring in May 2019 after holding many Wipfli leadership roles throughout his long career at Wipfli.
