AlumiTank
Andy Alldredge, Project Manager

“We have learned a lot from this implementation and are now in a ‘walking phase,’ seeing the opportunities to run. Despite the obstacles inherent in this type of project, the engagement with Wipfli’s team has simply been outstanding.”

Summary

AlumiTank switched to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to modernize its financial and business management capabilities. The company had been using multiple business systems and recognized the need to unify its information into one platform.

Situation

AlumiTank was using a number of disparate business systems that didn’t talk to each other. As a result, the company lacked visibility into true production costs and profitability. Company leaders couldn’t get the clarity they needed to measure and improve business performance.

In addition, AlumiTank also sought a solution that would allow them to be compliant with the recent South Dakota v. Wayfair Inc. nexus ruling that requires out-of-state sellers to collect and remit state sales tax. Incorporating a solution that integrates with Microsoft Business Central allows them to avoid an overhead of effort applied to an aging accounting system that they were quickly outgrowing.

Strategy

Wipfli’s first step was to outline AlumiTank’s challenges and build a technology roadmap. The project was plotted in phases, giving them bite-size wins that would ease the transition and foster user buy-in for bigger changes ahead.

The first stage migrated the company’s financial data to Business Central and integrated the sales tax tool Avalera. Future steps involve rolling out manufacturing and inventory management in Business Central.

Results

With Business Central, AlumiTank has been able to improve its accounting processes and increase reporting efficiency. A data cleanup effort, as part of the migration, means the company is now getting better information.

The technology roadmap created a vision for AlumiTank along with a phase-in plan that allows the company to test and leverage the technology as they seek continued efficiency and growth. Thanks to an effective change management approach, team members at AlumiTank are ready to build on this initial win and continue expanding the system’s capabilities.

Client profile

AlumiTank manufactures aluminum tanks for the trucking industry. The company is headquartered in Harvard, Illinois.
